Optus and amaysim's international roaming now extends to the air thanks to a partnership with AeroMobile.
This is included with both Optus and amaysim's existing international roaming add-ons with AeroMobile listed in destinations.
Optus offers international roaming to its customers from $5 per day. Postpaid customers get unlimited talk and text and 5GB of data to use per day while prepaid customers have the option of purchasing a one-day expiry add-on with 1GB of data, 100 texts and 100 call minutes for $5, or a seven-day expiry add on with 7GB of data, 700 texts and 700 call minutes for $35.
Here are Optus' mobile plans:
amaysim offers four roaming packs with a mix of options for call inclusions, texts and data. See amaysim's international roaming packs here:
| Pack | Price | Inclusions |
|---|---|---|
| Small Talk | $20 | 100 mins, 100 texts, no data |
| The Works | $25 | 50 mins, 30 texts, 2GB |
| Just Gigs | $50 | No mins, no texts, 6GB |
| The Epic | $70 | 100 mins, 60 texts, 9GB |
Here are amaysim's prepaid plans:
In-flight roaming is subject to availability with partner airlines, at the time of writing some of the major airline partners include:
- Asiana Airlines
- Cathay Pacific
- Emirates
- Etihad Airways
- Lufthansa
- Malaysia Airlines
- Singapore Airlines
It's also important to note that the AeroMobile network utilises satellites to provide signal so while you may have access you shouldn't expect 4G or 5G speeds.
Vodafone started offering in-flight roaming as part of its $5 roaming deal in October last year, also through a partnership with AeroMobile. Vodafone's offer is still one of the best available because it lets you access your full plan inclusions while you're overseas.
