Samsung Galaxy Ring

Alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6, Samsung finally revealed the full details of the Galaxy Ring - its first finger-based wearable. While Samsung has yet to confirm local pricing and availability, a spokesperson told us the Galaxy Ring will launch in Australia before the end of year.

In terms of functionality, the Galaxy Ring is largely a fitness tracker. It has three sensors - an accelerometer, heart rate sensor, and skin temperature sensor - which are used to measure your heart rate, activity, and sleep. It's the same kind of information you'd get from a Galaxy Watch, but without the other smart features. The Galaxy Ring isn't going to vibrate if you get a notification, for example.

Samsung says you'll get up to seven days per charge from the Galaxy Ring, and you'll top it up using a charging case.

The Galaxy Ring will naturally work best with Samsung handsets - and can even work in tandem with a Galaxy Watch for more accurate metrics - but can also work with other Android phones. You'll miss out on some features like a daily energy score if you're using a phone from a different manufacturer with the Galaxy Ring. iPhone compatibility is out of the question.

You'll be able to get the Galaxy Ring in silver, black, or gold. No matter which colour you pick, it has a titanium build.

The Galaxy Ring will cost USD$399 when it launches internationally. That's just under $600 at current exchange rates. Unlike rivals like the Oura Ring, the Galaxy Ring won't have a monthly subscription fee.

Galaxy Watch Ultra

In addition to the Galaxy Ring, Samsung announced two new smartwatches: the Galaxy Watch 7 and the Galaxy Watch Ultra (pictured above).

The Galaxy Watch Ultra is effectively Samsung's take on the Apple Watch Ultra. The design - and even the band colours - are pretty familiar. The Galaxy Watch Ultra continues to use a round display, however, even if it has been shoved into a square frame.

Like the Apple Watch Ultra, the Galaxy Watch Ultra is pitched for outdoor activity enthusiasts, and to that end, has a titanium build, 10ATM of water-resistance, and sapphire crystal class. There's also a "Quick Button" that acts as a shortcut to certain apps, a longer battery life, and a brighter screen. It will set you back $1,299.

The Galaxy Watch 7 is a fairly iterative update on the Galaxy Watch 6, mostly featuring a new chipset and some software improvements. It still has the same $599 starting price.

Both the Galaxy Watch Ultra and Galaxy Watch 7 can be pre-ordered now.
