There's now a countless number of travel eSIM providers to consider if you're going overseas, but Simify is one of the more unique options. Simify offers unlimited eSIMs for most destinations; instead of paying for a data allowance, you pay for the number of days you'll be overseas.

It's an interesting proposition that can bring peace of mind - you're not going to run out of data or pay excess fees -, but it can also be overkill. Whether a Simify travel eSIM is worth it depends on how long you're heading overseas for and how much time you expect to spend on your phone.

I spent most of April in Europe, using a Simify eSIM for my primary connection. I had the $99 plan with a 30-day expiry, and in this time, I managed to go through about 37GB. My usage was higher than I expected, but given I had unlimited data, I didn't bother connecting to WiFi in my hotels or Airbnbs. And look, it's nice not to have to think about your usage when you're on holiday.

While $99 is steep for a month of mobile connectivity, it isn't unreasonable when compared to the competition. Airalo has often been my go-to travel eSIM option, but I would have needed its $159 Europe eSIM to account for the amount of data I used on my trip.

Jetpac is a little more reasonable, charging $61.50 for a 40GB European eSIM, but it only covers 30 countries. Simify works in 43. If you're just hitting the major spots like Italy, Germany, France, or Spain, this won't make a difference, but it is also worth double-checking.

If you're going on a shorter trip, Simify's eSIMs become harder to justify. Simify charges $44 for a seven-day unlimited European eSIM or $67 for 15 days. That works out to be $6.29 per day and $4.47 per day, respectively, and is a much worse deal than the $3.30 per day you'll pay for the 30-day eSIM. Vodafone and Optus' international roaming is cheaper than the $6.29, at $5 per day.

Unlimited data for such a short trip would also be overkill for most. You can currently get a European eSIM with 5GB from Airalo for $32 or from Jetpac for $11. In many cases, that would comfortably last a week.

In the same way you should right-size your mobile plan in Australia, you should do the same with your travel eSIM.

From a more practial perspective, Simify was a painless option for overseas connectivity. Setup was simple, and I used the eSIM in Finland, Poland, the Netherlands, France, and Belgium without any issues. Traffic is routed through Poland, if that's of interest.

As with most travel eSIM options, Simify SIMs are data-only. You won't be able to make phone calls. SIMCorner is your best option for an eSIM that comes with a phone number.
