A SIM card

Upstart internet service provider MyRepublic is set to get in the MVNO game next year and start offering mobile plan options to customers. Details are scarce at the moment, but the telco today confirmed that it will start offering mobile services in Singapore in the first quarter of 2018, with Australia following after.

While there's no concrete information on how MyRepublic will structure its mobile plans, we wouldn't be surprised if they aligned with how the telco sells broadband. At present, MyRepublic has two "personal" NBN options: $69.99 for unlimited data and speeds of up to 100Mbps on a 12-month contract, or $74.99 if you don't want to commit to a year. (There's also two other plans "for gamers".)

We expect similar simplicity to be echoed in MyRepublic's mobile plans, and wouldn't be surprised if it offered just one or two plans, much like Belong's new offering. We'd be surprised if MyRepublic decided to sell devices, as most MVNOs tend to be SIM-only (with just a few exceptions).

Given that MyRepublic will be reselling access to another telco's network, it is unlikely that it will be able to offer unlimited data mobile plans. No Australian mobile provider currently offers unlimited data plans. However, we'd expect MyRepublic to offer high inclusion plans at a relatively low data-per-dollar cost.

Operating a broadband and mobile business would also allow to MyRepublic to potentially offer discounts to customers who bundle their services.

MyRepublic's announcement coincides with its first anniversary of offering internet services in Australia.
