The pre-Christmas data deals just keep on coming! If you're looking to make a mobile switch this holiday season, Telstra is now offering a hefty 10GB for under $40 per month.
For a limited time, the telco's $49 Mx plan has been reduced to $39 per month on a 12-month contract. You'll get 10GB of monthly data, plus unlimited national talk and text, and unlimited Wifi data at Telstra Air hotspots.
To qualify, you'll need to buy the $39 plan online via Telstra's own web portal, sign up for electronic billing, and then set up automatic payments. You'll also need to activate Telstra's My Account online service tool, plus download the Telstra 24x7 App to your phone, within 30 days. You'll also need to be a new Telstra customer, so no switching from your current Telstra plan to the $39 deal.
Sound complicated? Telstra's Mx plans are online-only options, which means you'll only be able to change or manage your plan through the company's online support tools. However, users have access to 24/7 help through Telstra Chat, plus CrowdSupport, Facebook and Twitter.
Is it the best big-data deal?
The 10GB for $39 offer comes as both Optus and Amaysim announce similar big-value data deals. Amaysim customers can now grab an impressive 20GB of data on a month-to-month $50 recharge, while Optus has taken its deals next level, with an insane 50GB for just $60 on its SIM-only plans.
If you go with Optus, you can also nab 30GB for $50 per month, or 15GB for $40. Optus' SIM-only offers are only available on 12-month contracts, but you'll also get unlimited national talk and text, plus an Optus Sport subscription, data-free music streaming from selected services, and bonus international minutes.
As far as the best 4G data-for-dollars option, Optus is a clear winner (beating out Vodafone's 20GB for $50 plan, plus Virgin's $48 22GB deal). It's also a little easier to navigate than Telstra's self-service Mx plan. But if you're set on getting the best network coverage nationwide, Telstra does have a slight edge (particularly in rural areas).
