Add-ons
If you go through data like no tomorrow, Lebara also has add-on data plan SIM packs. These start at $5 for 1GB and each pack lasts for 30 days with the option to auto-recharge via the MyLebara website portal.
International options
For those wanting to stay in contact with people outside of Australia, Lebara offers unlimited international calls to at least 26 countries on all its 30-day SIM-only mobile plan tiers besides its cheapest Extra Small tier.
For those with travel plans on the horizon, there are a few international roaming add-ons to choose from. Either you can add-on to your existing Lebara plan or choose an international roaming package. Here are what you can expect in terms of pricing and inclusions for both types of international plans:
Add-ons:- International Call pack: $5 for a 30-day recharge and includes a $1 bonus credit
- Economy Roaming package: $15 for a 2-day recharge and includes 500MB of data, 15 minutes of standard talk and 50 SMS/MMS
- First Class Roaming pack: $50 for a 5-day recharge and includes 2GB of data, 90 minutes of standard talk and 200 SMS/MMS
If you already know where you're planning to travel to, simply enter the country's location into Lebara Mobile's International Roaming search bar and it will tell you if international roaming is available in the location you will be taking your phone overseas and what plans you can select from.
Lebara Mobile's International Call Rates easily break down how much it costs to call any destination outside of Australia. Simply enter the country's location into Lebara Mobile's International Call Rates search bar to find out what each country's PAYG rate is and how many call minutes to that location are included on all Lebara mobile plans.
Lebara Mobile plans: Support
As far as Lebara customer care goes, it offers a wide range of support options - short of having its own bricks and mortar store.
Its 24/7 live chat is for all issues from activations to account queries while customers can also reach out via Facebook, email and phone, while is available Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm and Weekends 9am to 6pm (Sydney time).
Aside from a general number, there are various numbers designed to handle specific queries, such as theft or loss or if you're calling from overseas, but be warned these vary in cost.
Lebara Mobile plans: Extras
In terms of extras, the telco scores above average.
Lebara Mobile does have full access to Vodafone's 5G coverage on select plans whereas other telcos only either have a limited trial or don't have access at all. It also places a huge emphasis on including unlimited standard talk and text to a minimum of 26 countries across the majority of its 30-day SIM-only mobile plans.
However, it doesn't offer mobile bundling options or a dedicated perks program but this last point can be forgiven as usually only the Big Three - Telstra, Optus and Vodafone - have them.
Lebara Mobile Plans: Devices
Lebara Mobile does not sell phones. All of its plans are SIM-only.
Lebara Mobile plans FAQs
What company is Lebara under?
Lebara Mobile plans are powered by the Vodafone mobile network.
What is the difference between Lebara and Vodafone?
Lebara is an MVNO powered by the Vodafone network. Compared to Vodafone, Lebara only offers SIM-only plans. This makes them more affordable and so they have the flexibility to include international calling features.
Through Vodafone, customers can get phone plans and a device, prepaid plans, SIM-only plans, tablets, NBN and 5G home internet. Because of its wide variety of options, its starting price tends to be higher. But when you consider bundling options, extras, discounts and new devices, Vodafone could still work out to be more affordable for you in the long run.
