Some rural Australians are about to lose access to Channel 10

On July 1, regional broadcaster WIN Television plans to switch off access to Channels 10, 10 Drama, 10 Comedy and Nickelodeon in the Riverland, Mount Gambier and Griffith markets. This change comes after the WIN Network’s Program Supply Agreement with Network 10 comes to a close. It's almost one year to the day that WIN TV also temporarily switched off Seven in these same areas due to a failed agreement with Seven West Media.

What shows will this impact?

If you live in these areas and you're a fan of MasterChef Australia, Have You Been Paying Attention?, Love it or List It Australia, NCIS, The Cheap Seats, Friends or Taskmaster Australia, you won't be able to access these programs via free-to-air after June 30.

Thankfully, it's still incredibly easy to keep watching everything offered by 10 if you have an internet-connected streaming device, like a smart TV, Apple TV 4K or Google TV Streamer.

How can I keep watching Channel 10?

While the free-to-air option may be gone, residents in the Riverland, Mount Gambier and Griffith markets can still stream the content these channels offer via the 10 app on select connected smart TVs or mobile devices (like phones and tablets). The other option is to watch via 10.com.au via most web browsers. While completey free, both options require you to have an internet connection and email address to sign up.

Alternatives to free-to-air television

The most common alternative to free-to-air television is to sign up to subscription-based streaming sites like Netflix, Apple TV, Prime Video, Binge, or Kayo (for the sports fans).

However, most Channel 10 viewers will be at home with Paramount Plus. Channel 10 is technically owned by Paramount Skydance (previously ViacomCBS) these days. Paramount Plus streams a lot of what Channel 10 offers, including Survivor, NCIS, Taskmaster, Masterchef, The Traitors and more. But it does come at a cost. Even if you accept ad breaks, you're still looking at $7.99 per month at minimum. With that said, there are a few ways to score cheaper Paramount Plus in Australia.
