Australian politics may be a mess, but it's not all bad in our nation's capital: the NBN build is all but done and there are plans and prices to cater to all Canberrans (and imposters from Queanbeyan). The important thing to note is while nearly all Australians can get NBN, the way in which you connect to the NBN will vary depending on where you live. 

If you're in an apartment block you might have a Fibre to the Building connection, if you're in a new development, you might be lucky enough to have Fibre to the Premises, or if you're a little more rural, you might have a Fixed Wireless connection. 

While at the end of the day, everyone will be connected to the NBN, the technology type that connects you can affect the plans you're able to sign-up for. Fibre to the Premise plans are different to Fixed Wireless plans which are again different to Satellite. 

That's why it's important that you run an address check when looking for a new NBN plan. This way you can ensure you're comparing the right type of plan.

No matter where you live in Australia, you'll typically get to pick from the same set of NBN providers if you're looking for a new plan. Canberra is no exception. FTTP upgrades in the ACT

The vast majority of Fibre to the Node (FTTN) and Fibre to the Curb (FTTC) connections in the ACT can now upgrade to Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), for free. For eligible FTTN users, this is done by ordering an NBN 500 plan or faster from an eligible provider. FTTC users can upgrade to FTTP without ordering a faster speed. While speed is the main benefit of FTTP, the technology type is also more reliable and resilient. 

The majority of remaining FTTN addresses in the ACT will be able to upgrade to FTTP by the end of 2030. According to NBN Co, these addresses are largely based in areas such as Belconnen, Tuggeranong, North Canberra, Woden Valley, Weston Creek, and South Canberra. 99% of addresses will be able to upgrade to FTTP, while the last 1% may be move to Fixed Wireless or next generation satellite instead.
