D-Link has a cheap new 4G modem

D-Link has added a cheap new 4G portable modem to its range: the $99 DWR-933M.

While the portable hotspot is notably missing 5G connectivity, it still supports new technology like WiFi 6. The DWR-933M is also able to achieve download speeds of up to 300Mbps in some areas, thanks to carrier aggregation (connecting to multiple network bands at once for faster connectivity).

Other key specifications include a 3,000mAh battery said to last up to 12 hours, USB-C for charging, a 1.77-inch display, and support for up to 64 simultaneous users.

5G might seem like an odd omission, but portable 5G modems still tend to have a much higher starting price. The cheapest still sell for over $300, while high-end models can retail for over $1,000.

The D-Link DWR-933M is available now. You can pick it up direct from D-Link, or retailers including JB Hi-Fi. You'll need to bring your own mobile broadband plan.
