Motrola G05 and G15

Motorola today announced two budget phones: the Moto G05 and the Moto G15. The two new devices are priced at $179 and $229 respectively, and despite the cheap price, actually have NFC.

NFC isn't always common in this price bracket, which means phones that don't have it can't use tap-to-pay options like Google Pay. The $299 Samsung Galaxy A05S and $399 CMF Phone 1 are both missing NFC, for example.

The Moto G05 includes a 6.7-inch 720+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Helio G81  processor, 4GB of RAM, up to 1TB of expandable storage, and a 5,200mAh battery. There’s a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

The Moto G15 comes with a 6.7-inch 1080p+ display with a 60Hz refresh rate, a MediaTek Helio G81 Extreme processor, 4GB of RAM up to 1TB of expandable storage and also a 5,200mAh battery. It has a 50MP primary camera and a 5MP utra wide camera on the rear with an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

Both handsets have displays protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, an IP52 water-repellant rating and come with the latest Android 15 software.

A Motorola spokesperson told WhislteOut "both the Moto G05 and Moto G15 will not have OS updates" but they will receive security updates for two years until December 2026.

Both of the new devices are available today at retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Harvey Norman, Amazon, MobileCiti, Big W and Motorola.

Both devices have a vegan leather finish, the Moto G05 is available in Plum Red, Forest Green, Misty Blue and Fresh Lavender (exclusive to Big W) colourways while the Moto G15 is available in Gravity Grey, Sunrise Orange and Iguana Green.

As the cost of living puts the pressure on Australia households, Motorola's new devices might be an opportunity too good to miss, especially when they're cramming in some decent features.

For example, while still more powerful "budget" or entry-models from bigger manufactuers are much more expensive. Google's Pixel 8a costs $849 while Apple's just announced iPhone 16e starts at $999.
