Vodafone customers around the country are reporting that they're unable to make or receive voice calls this afternoon.

Vodafone has put out a statement on its website "We are aware some customers are currently experiencing interruptions to voice calls. Our technical teams are working to resolve the issue as quickly as possible. We apologise for the inconvenience."

Customers of telcos that use Vodafone's network including TPG, iiNet, felix and Lebara may also be affected with similar statements appearing on those telco's websites.

The website Downdetector which allows users to self-report issues with websites and services saw a spike in reports of outages from users at 5am this morning. Reports peaked shortly before 2pm today with over 400 reports.

Data available on the website details that an average of 8 reports would usually be submitted at that time of day on an ordinary day.

Vodafone has confirmed text messages, data and calls to Triple Zero are unaffected. The outage is limited to Vodafone's phone service with no reports of internet customers being affected.

Update 7pm 16/04: Vodafone says it has resolved the issue.
