Coles, it's the big supermarket chain where prices are "down, down" and for this month most of its mobile plans are too.

Coles Mobile is offering up to 20% off the first renewal for its 365-day long expiry plans.

The biggest saving is available its 120GB plan which drops from $150 to $119. Generally, long expiry plans provide the most value to mobile users who use between 10 to 12GB per month who don't have to worry about managing their data over one large renewal period.

Here's how Coles' plans measure up compared to a monthly cost:

  • 60GB. You'll have around 5GB of data to get through each month at a price of $8.25. This plan best suits low data users
  • 120GB. This is the best deal at close to a $1 per GB value. Broken up evenly across the year you've got 10GB each month at a price of $9.92 per month.
  • 200GB. Finally, on this plan you get around 16.5GB to use per month. You essentially pay $14 per month.

Customers certainly get more value compared to the prices they would pay for a similar amount of data on a month-to-month plan.

What do you get on a Coles Mobile plan?

Coles Mobile operates on the Optus 4G network which covers 98.5% of Australians. All of its plans include unlimited national calls and texts.

You get unlimited standard international calls to 15 countries on its prepaid plans and it also offers data rollover for up to 50GB.

How do Coles Mobile's prepaid plans compare?

The most obvious comparison to draw first is how Coles' plans stack up against rival Woolies' Everyday Mobile.

Everyday Mobile is powered Telstra's wholesale network which covers 98.8% of the population. Woolies has a grocery discount of 10% off an eligible shop (up to $50 per month) while Coles' own deal isn't included on its prepaid plans.

Based on price alone Coles is ahead as one of the cheapest long expiry prepaid plan providers. Here's how Coles Mobile's cheapest long expiry prepaid plan compares to other plans in WhistleOut's database with at least 100GB of data:
