Nokia is back! Following on from yesterday's launch of the revived 3310, the iconic Finnish company has hammered out agreements with three of Australia's 'big four' telcos.
Leading the Nokia push is Vodafone, announcing this week that it will stock not only the retrofied 3310 feature phone next month, but also the Nokia 8, Nokia 6 and Nokia 3 touchscreen devices.
Vodafone: Nokia rollout next month
Vodafone will offer the Nokia 8 and Nokia 6 smartphones on its new, interest-free payment plans, so customers can choose between paying off their device over a 12, 24, or 36-month term. You'll also be able to buy the Nokia 8, Nokia 6 and Nokia 3 for full price upfront on Vodafone plans.
Pricing for the flagship Nokia 8 is around $899 outright, with the Nokia 6 costing $399 in total, and the Nokia 3 priced at $179. If you opt to pay off your phone on a Vodafone plan, monthly pricing will vary depending on your payment term; however, you'll still pay the same total amount for your device, no matter the length of your contract.
Vodafone has provided some pricing examples: the Nokia 8 will cost $24.87 over 36 months on its $40 Red Plan, while the Nokia 6 is $11.08 per month over 36 months on a $30 Red Plan. The budget-friendly Nokia 3 will only be available to buy upfront, and is ideal for Vodafone's Prepaid Combo plans.
Optus and Telstra: all about prepaid
If you're looking for a fun, affordable throwback, you'll also be able to pick up the newly-announced Nokia 3310 from Vodafone and Optus. Both telcos will offer the 3G-only phone on prepaid plans, with Vodafone already confirming that it will price the 3310 at $79 outright - a slight saving on the $89.95 RRP.
Finally, Telstra will be selling the mid-range Nokia 5 on its prepaid plans from October onwards. The Telstra version will be identical to the Nokia 5 that's currently sold through Aussie retailers for $329, but will include 3GB of RAM; the models available in JB Hi-Fi and Harvey Norman only feature 2GB.
