Vodafone today unveil new MyMix prepaid plans giving customers to pick and choose a combination of calls and data, plus international calls and the expiry period for the credit.

Vodafone has built a new page on its website and updated the MyVodafone app to allow customers to build new plans on their phones every time they recharge their accounts.

Prices range from as little as $8 to as much as $110, depending on which inclusions you pick and how long you set the credit expiry.

Expiry options are 7 days, 28 days and 90 days. The difference in price between 28 and 90 days is about double, meaning you will effectively get the third month free compared with recharging every month.

International minutes can be used for calls to the 70 select countries included in Vodafone’s postpaid Red plans. Some of these countries are China, India, New Zealand, the UK and the USA.

As a bonus, Vodafone is throwing in extra data for all My Mix recharges through until 31 May. The 8GB maximum data pack comes with 12GB during this time.

Who is MyMix good for?

With so many options available with these plans, most phone users in Australia will be able to build a plan that suits their needs. High data users are catered for, as are low usage customers who want a long expiry option.

Parents buying phone plans for kids do well from the MyMix structure. You can imagine parents using mobile data instead of cash as an allowance for teens, with the ability to give more to the kids who do their jobs, and to restrict the data for kids who aren’t playing along.

International travellers also get a good deal from the plans, with the multiple expiry options allows visitor to choose a plan that matches the length go their stay.

There are a few examples of people who can find a better deal elsewhere though. If you are calling overseas a lot or if you need a prepaid plan with a 365 day expiry, there are better plans available. But for everyone else, the MyMix plans do a good job of offering up what we want, without having us pay for things we don’t.

Check out a few examples of the MyMix plan combinations below.
